New neigh-borhood: National Mall Park Police horses will soon have state-of-the-art home

The horse of the U.S. Park Police Mounted Unit are getting a new home on the National Mall. The Trust for the National Mall is working with the National Park Service to replace the temporary horse stables built in 1976 with a brand new, state-of-the-art facility that also includes an Education Center that will be open to the public. The stables are set to be completed in 2022.

Thank you, ABC7 and Caroline Patrickis for spotlighting the stables project and the ways in which it will be both an efficient shelter for the horses as well as connect the public to the horses and the history of the Mounted Unit.

Additionally, the stables project will create a new pathway connecting the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial and the Tidal Basin to the National Mall, allowing for more accessibility and easier navigation between the two areas.

The new stables and education center are being made possible thanks to the support of several generous donors, including Wells Fargo and Trust Board of Directors Vice Chair Sheila Johnson, who serves as Campaign Chair for the project.
