Partnership to aid National Mall improvements
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Improvements soon could be coming to the National Mall.

Secretary Kempthorne has been a champion for the National Mall and we are thrilled he has included the National Mall in the first round of Centennial Challenge projects, said Chip Akridge, Chairman of the Trust for the National Mall. The strong public-private partnership between the Trust for the National Mall and the National Park Service makes restoring the National Mall to world-class status possible. We hope this is the first of many projects to be funded.

The National Park Service has launched a partnership with the Trust for the National Mall, a nonprofit group dedicated to raising money to restore and maintain the Mall.

Officials say the partnership hopes to raise much of the estimated 350 million dollars needed to restore and maintain the area, which draws about 25 million visitors each year.

Possible projects could include rehabilitation of the Lincoln Reflecting Pool and Constitution Gardens Lake and repair of the seawall walk around the Tidal Basin.
